CSA-1 is a 2-day introductory avalanche course.
The goal of the program is to provide students with a beginner-level decision-making framework that can be applied pre-travel and in the field to increase safety margins and maximize fun!
• Interpret the avalanche bulletin, recognize terrain at avalanche risk.
• Structure of the snowpack.
• Know the steps needed to plan and conduct an outing.
• Using the Avaluator.
• Practice proper mountain travel techniques.
• Know how to carry out an autonomous rescue.
• Understand the limits of their training and consider the next steps (CSA 2, level 1 professional).

Day 1:
Part of the training will take place in class, bring comfortable clothes for the interior. You will also go outside, but without moving on the ground.
Day 2:
You will spend time in the classroom as well as outdoors to familiarize yourself with search and rescue techniques as well as avalanche safety equipment.
At the end of the course, you will receive a certificate of achievement (CSA1) issued by Ski Chic-Chocs and approved by Avalanche Canada. This is recognized across the country.

• Provide pens and notebooks.
• You will not need your sliding equipment for the duration of the lesson.
• The course will be adapted, if necessary, so that it can be given regardless of the weather conditions. Search and rescue exercises can be done even if there is no snow.
