CSA-1 is a 2-day avalanche training course that covers aspects of rescue, preparedness and safety.
Professional guides trained to the highest standards to assist you in preparing your mountain outings and guarantee your safety in the event of an incident.
All our training now takes place in Sainte-Anne-Des-Monts and in the Gaspésie National Park.
Depending on the weather conditions, the practical part will take place in the mountains in order to offer a more realistic setting.
• Bring pens and a notebook.
• You will need your skiing equipment for the duration of the course.
• The course will be adapted, if necessary, so that it can be given regardless of weather conditions. Search and rescue exercises can be done even if there is no snow.
At the end of the course, you will receive a certificate of completion issued by Ski Chic-Chocs and approved by Avalanche Canada. This is recognized across the country.
• Interpret the Avalanche Bulletin, recognize avalanche risk terrain.
• Structure of the snow cover.
• Know the steps needed to plan and conduct an outing.
• Use of the Avaluator.
• Practice appropriate mountain travel techniques.
• Know how to perform an autonomous rescue.

DAY 1
Part of the training will take place in class, bring comfortable clothes for indoors. You will also go outside, but without traveling to the field.
DAY 2
You will spend time in the classroom as well as in the field to familiarize yourself with search and rescue techniques as well as avalanche safety equipment.
All class material such as books, Avaluator and cheat sheets will be given to you on the first day of training. Avalanche safety equipment such as DVA (Avalanche Victim Detector), shovel and probe will be loaned to you for the duration of the activity (if you have your own, bring them).
Bring a lunch for both days, a 60-minute break is planned for this purpose.
Car transport to the ski area and the Gaspésie Park Discovery and Service Center.
Backcountry skiing or splitboarding equipment.
For major participant: to read and understand before the training. The forms will be completed on site with the trainer, so do not complete before the training.
For minor participant: to be completed and printed before the training by a legal guardian/parent.
