Enjoy four days of hands-on backcountry avalanche training with a Canadian Avalanche Association professional member trainer.
You will receive a Certificate of Achievement Approved by Avalanche Canada. This is recognized across the country.
Choosing an avalanche course with Ski Chic-Chocs means benefiting from unique expertise in the East, guided by passionate instructors trained to the highest industry standards.
The supervision ratio, limited to 5 clients for 1 guide , is the lowest in the industry. This ratio facilitates travel in the mountains and gives you more space for a personalized course that suits you.


Participants must have completed a CSA 1 or have obtained permission from the instructor depending on their experience.
Participants are recommended to have an intermediate level of off-piste skiing or snowboarding in addition to being in good physical condition.
- Determine additional planning and travel techniques needed to travel safely in the mountains.
- Be familiar with local avalanche hazard index verification techniques.
- Be familiar with the Avalanche Terrain Exposure Scale and use it to manage small-scale terrain.
- Know how to make route choices and use the terrain to manage risks.
- Use travel techniques appropriate to avalanche conditions.
- Perform an autonomous rescue effectively.

During the four days, you will spend time in class at the beginning of the morning to watch the avalanche bulletin and the weather conditions in anticipation of field trips.
The rest of the day will be spent outside on the pitch.
All class materials such as books, field notebook and memory aids will be given to you on the first day of training. Avalanche safety equipment such as DVA (Avalanche Victim Detector), shovel and probe will be loaned to you for the duration of the activity (if you have your own, bring them).

• Car transportation to the ski area and the Gaspésie Park Discovery and Service Center.
For major participant: to read and understand before the training. The forms will be completed on site with the trainer, so do not complete before the training.
For minor participant: to be completed and printed before the training by a legal guardian/parent.
