Glacier dynamics and assessment, risk factors, glacier movement and mate rescue (crevasse extraction) are the focus of this two-day course.
DAY 1
Identification of the glacier & the alpine environment
The formation of crevasses, Bergschrund
Identify the dangers of the mountain, snow stability
Navigation, route planning and cornice management
Understand the hardware required
DAY 2
Crevasse rescue and rope skills
Anchor in the snow
Traction system: 3:1 / 6:1
Rappel and Ascent on rope
Belaying in a steep line or ledge
All class materials such as books and cheat sheets will be given to you on the first day of training
Avalanche safety equipment such as DVA (Avalanche Victim Detector), shovel and probe will be loaned to you for the duration of the activity (if you have your own, bring them).
Plan a lunch for the training days.
Read and understand before training. The forms will be completed on site with the trainer, so do not complete before the training.
